    CONSULTANT SPINAL SURGEON

    Mr Rai has been a Consultant at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital since 2001 and also at London Norwich Spine Clinic (add link to londonnorwichspine.org) 

    He has operated on over 3000 complex spinal conditions and has demonstrated expertise on a wide range spinal conditions with emphasis on spinal stenosis, cervical fusion/disc replacement, minimal access keyhole surgery for disc prolapse and scoliosis. 

    Mr Rai is past President of the British Association Spinal Surgeons (BASS) elected by his surgical peers and has been on the executive committee for 6 years. He has published on national best practice surgical guidelines, helped develop the British Spinal Registry (over 150,000 patients), involved NICE guidelines, National Government assessment of Surgical Practice in England (GIRFT) and developed the travelling spinal fellowship (administered through BASS & British Scoliosis Society).

     

    He is fellowship trained (Australia, European Travelling Fellowship, South Africa and America) and he has trained over 12 spinal Consultants (Working in London, Cambridge, Oxford, Exeter, Ipswich, Southampton), help develop core curriculum for spinal training. He has 19 years of consultant spinal experience and is a regular reviewer of unit level surgical practice in the UK via BASS and Royal College of Surgeons. All his patients have validated outcome data which can objectively assess his outcome. 

    Mr Rai appreciates the disability from spinal disease as he himself has had spinal surgery.
