Kirat Karō is one of the Three pillars of Sikhism. The term means to earn an honest, pure and dedicated living by exercising one’s God-given skills, abilities, talents and hard labour for the benefit and improvement of the individual, their family and society at large.
Vaṇḍ Chhakō (ਵੰਡ ਛਕੋ) .
It means to share what you have and to consume it together as a community. This could be wealth, food. etc.
This post here is an example of living and personifying these above pillars of Sikhism; We had a young man from Zira, Ferozepur Distt Punjab who had a very severe form of spinal arthritis called Ankylosying spondylitis. He was so debilitated that it was impossible for him to even lie down let alone walk.
He was operated by our team here at PGI with Expert help from the SpineAid Team from UK & USA consisting of Amarjit Rai, Iqroop Chopra, Jayesh Trivedi, Vinay Jasani, Sashin Ahuja, Viren Vasudeva, Sakthi Rajaram and Mushtaq Sheikh.
A full day surgery with excellent help from our Anaesthesia team led to an excellent result and a very happy family..
But, the most important the unsung people who fund our surgeries without whom we can not ever do these complex surgeries – Rajdeep Sekhon, Samar and Kirat Cheema and Dr Ranjit Grewal.. ( Vand Ke Chakna”, means to share the fruits of one’s labor with others before considering oneself, thus living as an inspiration and a support to the entire community )
Cheers and thanks to the surgeons as well our families for the support.
